Cadent’s Nick Jerman shares his experience working with Nobody Left Behind

Nick Jerman, Cadent Gas’ Head of Customer Operations North West

“NLB are a fantastic organisation as they equip participants with key qualifications, the transferable skills and knowledge they need for the world of work.

In the past we’ve recruited traditionally through job adverts, and you often find you spend a lot of time in the process and ultimately employ someone who may not be fully suited to the role and either doesn’t accept the offer or they start work and leave after a short time.

NLB offer a unique recruitment offer as they get people job ready with not just the skills and qualifications but with the right attitude. It’s great to see an organisation that’s so successful at instilling a strong work ethic in young people.

And as they know their participants, they’re able to skilfully match them to employers so it means we get the right people who want to work for us. It’s also great for us as a company to be able to employ people from diverse backgrounds within the communities we serve to maximise our social value offer.

Liam was our first recruit from NLB and we’ve since recruited others. I came in and met him and was impressed that he’d been working all night but was still enthusiastic and keen to talk to me. Since starting work he’s really impressed us and the world’s his oyster now. Hopefully he’ll progress his career with Cadent, but as he gains more experience and skills, he could work within so many sectors and ultimately support a green economy in the future.”
