Liam tells his story from Nobody Left Behind to full-time employee at Cadent
Liam Vernon, 23, from Wirral
“I was working nights for Amazon then roofing in the day. So, I had work, but I felt stuck, it wasn’t a career. I knew I had to make my life better for the future.
I heard about the window fitting (fenestration) course and thought I’d give it a go. I’d work all night then I’d head into NLB, and they’ve completely changed my life for the better.
They do exactly what their name says. They don’t leave anyone behind, and they bent over backwards to support me and the others on the course. I never knew all the opportunities that were available in construction.
After I’d passed my training and qualifications Paul told me Cadent were on the lookout for new recruits and were popping in the next day and did, I want to meet them for a chat.
So, the next day I turned up at the office looking knackered as I’d been working all night, but I wanted the opportunity to speak to them and see if they might have something for me. Amazingly they offered me a job.
I’m only a couple of months in but they’ve already put me through a three-week training course to become a gas repair engineer, I have my own company van and I’m based out of the Garston depot.
It’s great and I’m loving the fact I now have a career not just a job and I’m really thankful to them for giving me the career of a lifetime. There are so many opportunities to learn and progress and I’m 100 per cent committed to going as far as I can.
All my family and friends are really pleased for me and they’re really proud of what I’m doing. I can’t thank the NLB team enough for everything they’ve done for me. They just get it, and they do everything they can to help plus they get real employers to come in which makes it as easy as possible to get a good job.”
